Final Assignment: SURVIVAL KIT

This is our last assignment for the CTS module. For this assignment, we are to form a group or 5 or 6, and each group will be given a theme (a situation) and every one of the group members get to choose a daily item out of 7.
With the daily items, we are required to brainstorm ideas to make a survival kit based on our given theme. We have to transform our daily item to something else, and combine them with our group memebrs as a pack in a kit. The kit should also come with an instruction booklet of all the items inside.

Our group got the situation "How to survive in a boring class".

I chose chipsticks out of water bottles, wet tissues, chopsticks, coins, balloons, hair clips and cotton bud to be my daily item. Originally our group does not have the idea of a group theme, so we did our stuffs individually, and of course, we got rejected. Then our group came out with the idea of a battlefield theme, so our kit will be the battlefield which is filled with sand, and our itemms to become weapons and mechanisms on battlefield. My chopsticks will be the gun, and we would also have crossbow, towers with enemies, and other stuffs like catapult. But it got rejected too, as our stuffs are all about shooting, and it could get quite boring playing it, not to mention that a battlefield would be too big and obvious to be played in class.

And then we came out with another group theme, Secret Stationeries. It is reasonable as everyone brings stationeries to class. So our goal is to disguise our items as normal stationeries, so that it would not get noticed by the lecturers teaching in front.

For me, I would use merge chopsticks with an ordinary notebook. Originally my secretnotebook's purpose is to play handphone inside it secretly, but my tutor said that we could not include any gadgets inside, so I did some modifications to it. Now my secret notebook have multi functions, such as secretly reading comic strips, secretly playing the "Unblock Me" game and when you get bored of all of these -- you could still remove them (yes they are removable) and put ur phone inside to play.

The comic strip could be removed and replaced with new ones once reading finish the previous one. Just slide it or out the plastic sheet on the second last page of the 'holed' pages.

The 'Unblock Me' board game can be played on the last page. The instructions and playing method is inside the instruction booklet that is provided with the kit. There are also a total of 9 different level samples inside the booklet.

Our Survival Kit

Our colour theme is blue, black and white. To suit our colour theme, we sprayed black paint all over our kit, and used white paint for our Secret Stationeries logo.

Inside our survival kit contains:
- Candy bottle (disguised as a normal water bottle)
- Pinball game (hidden in a normal pencil case)
- Triangular Peg Solitaire game (a small triangular box)
- Secret notebook (disguised as a normal notebook)
- Finger puppets (with the faces of Albert Einstein, Obama and John Cena)
- Instruction booklet

Documentation

In my documentation proccess, I had included all my failed ideas, my attempt, procedures of making them, as well as my finalized idea.

It includes introduction to my secret notebook, how my secret notebook works, and also my group's survival kit ideas and the finalized design.

For all the failed ideas and attempt, the weakness or reasonsof failure is clearly stated, as well as the attempts of improvement.

Reflection
This is a very interesting assignment. As all the other CTS assignments, it requires a lot of thinking and use up a lot of brain juice. The only difference is that, this assignment deserves its every right to be called a 'final assignment', it is harder than all the previous assignments in this module, in my personal opinion. Or maybe our group is too unlucky to get this situation? Personally, I think that the restrictions are too much; we can't make noise, it can't be too obvious, it must be very interesting, it must be suitable for people of all genders and probably age, and it must be suited to the user's (that means everyone's) liking or interest. But I guess this is what makes it interesting -- its challenging. And this is probably the reason why we have to take CTS, to train our creativity.

Maybe we are not smart enough, but it actually took us 2 or 3 attempt to grasp the right idea of how to do this right. Nobody can imagine the happiness the moment I heard that our ideas are approved. Seriously, I won't be shocked if it was rejected again.

But still, it was a nice experience doing all the CTS assignments and I want to thank our lecturers that patiently guided us and for their tolerance towards our lackings.

To sum this assignment up, from this assignment I achieved TGC 3.1 and 3.2, to think creatively and also to solve problems with effective solutions. we must be creative in transforming our daily items, to suit the situation given to us and effectively solve the problem (which is to kill boredom in this case), and if the idea is not good enough, just keep trying and thinking until a beter and suitable idea comes up. It would be easier if we analyse the situation clearly, and are able to think of solutions that counters the situation. Like if I'm bored in class, maybe I want a sweet, but the problem is how should I eat it so that i won't be noticed by anyone? The moment when we came out to a solution for this, we had achieved success in the TGC 3.1 and 3.2.

Another thing that is very important and vital to this assignment is teamwork. TGC 5.1 states thatwe should clearly understand team dynamics and works diligently as a team. This is very important to produce something with good quality. Nice stuffs always need more effort, and when we are in a group, we can divide the effort and add up some personal oil to it, to let it burn and leap higher up. Once combined, our efforts will burn like wildfire and may burn crystals out of stones.
